Mark Longhurst Leaves Sky News

Mark Longhurst Leaves Sky News

Two months after the on-air clash with Owen Jones, Mark Longhurst leaves (or has been sacked by) Sky News.

As mentioned, its been two months since the on-air clash between Mark Longhurst, Owen Jones and Julia Hartley-Brewer who were discussing the attack on an LGBT nightclub in Orlando.

Things got heated during the discussion and the result ended up with Owen Jones walking off-set in an unprofessional manner.

The two (Mark Longhurst and Julia Hartley-Brewer) continued examining and discussing the topics seen on the front pages of the next day's newspapers.

A few days following, Mark Longhurst released a statement to say the following - "I absolutely accept the atrocity in Florida was, of course, an attack on LGBT people, but I was also trying to reflect on what was on the newspaper front pages. It was never my intention to offend Owen Jones and I very much look forward to working with him again in the future.

Since the announcement of his departure from Sky News, many people are now questioning the reason behind him leaving and if the on-air discussion had anything to do with it.

A senior figure from Sky has reportedly said the following to the Daily Mail - "We are all devastated. Mark is a very experienced, distinguished journalist and had been given a cast-iron assurance that he was staying. He has a wife and children and this will hit him hard, it's dreadful.

Indicating that this was NOT his decision to leave.

Another source said the following - "Mark is a great broadcaster but management are looking to shake up the schedule a bit - this has nothing to do with Owen Jones.

Julia Hartley-Brewer reacted to the news of Mark Longhurst's departure by saying the following - "Very sad to hear that presenter Mark Longhurst has left Sky News. Always a consummate professional and pleasure to work with. A big loss."

Owen Jones also took to his Twitter, saying the following - "Mark Longhurst leaving Sky News has nothing to do with me or anything that happened involving me. Any claim to the contrary is false."

His statement on Twitter created a small debate and backlash with angry responses from people accusing him of always making situations about himself.
