Istanbul Nightclub Attacker Confesses

Istanbul Nightclub Attacker Confesses

Officials say suspect in the Istanbul Nightclub Attack, leaving 39 people dead, has confessed.
The Istanbul Nightclub Attacker has been captured in Turkey with officials saying that he has confessed about what happened on the night of the attack, leaving 39 people dead.

The attacker now know as, Abdulkadir Masharipov has told officials that he arrived in Turkey last January from Iran.

In the time that he was in Turkey, he was in contact with people and was "given instructions" to commit an attack on New Year's Eve night - when many people would be celebrating the occasion.

Initially, the plan was to attack Taksim Square on the night - known for being a major tourist attraction and filled with shops, restaurants and hotels. Prior to the attack - he took a video of the location and sent it back to his 'instructors' who also agreed that it would be a "good place" to attack.

On the night, Abdulkadir Masharipov went back to Taksim Square to check the location however there was "too much security" making it "impossible" to attack.

Leaving Taksim Sqaure, he contacted his 'instructors' to explain the situation who told him to "find another place to attack".

He continued to explain to officials that after the conversation with his instructors, he took a taxi at 10 o clock at night, looking for another "busy place" to attack. He spotted the Reina Nightclub which didn't have a lot of security - knowing that it would be full of people enjoying themselves for the occasion.

Before going ahead with the attack, he got in touch with his 'instructors' telling them about the new location and received the "go-ahead".

He then got in a taxi, went to his home and collected his gun - going back to the Reina Nightclub where he committed the attack, leaving 39 people dead.

The two photos above show the attacker after he was captured by officials - below is what the media released when he was on the run.
